This international standard applies to lampholders designed with a barrel thread for shadeholder rings designed to keep attachments to lampholders in place.
lt also covers barrel threads for shade holder rings.
Attention is drawn to lampholder safety standards lEC 60238,IEC 60400,IEC 60838-1 andIEC 61184 which cover all aspects of lampholder safety and to the luminaire standardlEC 60598-1 which contains information for luminaire design.

2Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
2.1
barrel thread
external thread on the outer shell of a lampholder intended to support a shade ring
2.2
shade ring
cylindrical component having an internal thread to engage a corresponding support on theouter shell of a lampholder and intended to carry or retain a shade.
3 Requirements to barrel threads
3.1General requirements
For B15 and B22 lampholders, barrel threads other than those shown in this standard may beused, providing they comply with Figure 8 of lEC61184.
